As we navigate through life serious and difficult experiences happen to us all. Sometimes we arrive at a point where we are no longer able to decide what to do for the best and this can bring to the fore thoughts, behaviors and feelings that are unmanageable, hurtful and harmful. Sometimes this can get stuck and the same pattern repeats over and over. If you are considering therapy for yourself or you and your partner hopefully the information below will be helpful. If you have any questions please ask.
How do I work?
I work with you to help you share your understanding of the current situation and explore opportunities for a way forward. It is my aim not to blame, take sides or offer advice.
Each session lasts around 90 minutes and I collaboratively adapt my way of working to your needs and preferences. Some couples like creative interventions and some people prefer to just talk. It is my role to facilitate in a friendly open way so you are both able to contribute your thoughts and feelings to discussion.
At times people are not sure how or what they would like to share their thoughts and feelings with each other, this can be for lots of reasons such as things have gone on for a long time or are too painful to speak about. If appropriate I will meet with you individually to offer you an opportunity to talk through things and think about how to bring that into the work. Please ask if this is something you feel might be right for you.
I am trained in a BACP accredited course in transactional analysis, I also have trained in play therapy and my current training is in systemic psychotherapy. I tailor my approach based on my experience and training to offer interventions I consider helpful. I enjoy my profession and remain open and curious about different approaches, I regularly update my knowledge and skills base. If you have further questions about the modalities that informs my approach please ask.

How long will it take?
I will discuss this with you. Sometimes it does not take long at all and sometimes more complex things take longer. We can discuss what is going to be right for you. Most couples come every two or three weeks for 6 to 12 sessions. Each session is up to 90 minutes long. In some circumstances your commitment in between sessions will partially determine how long it may take, generally commitment to try out new things will help.
What if only one of us wants to come?
Lots of people are reluctant to come to therapy for lots of different reasons. I hope to be as transparent as possible about what is on offer, available is an initial free meeting where you can meet me and see if you think working with me will be an option for you. Sometimes one partner attends first to think about a way or working that might be helpful for you. Please contact me for further information.
What about confidentiality and how what we share with you is managed?
I work within the BACP ethical guidelines and offering a professional service is very important to me. I will provide more details of confidentiality when you come for therapy. To support my work I have regular supervision to explore the work I am currently undertaking. This can help me explore possible blind spots and think about different interventions. If you have any questions about confidentiality please ask. In very basic terms I never talk about the work I am doing with my friends or relatives.
What is the cost?
After your initial phone call the cost is forty pounds for an hour and sixty pounds for an hour and a half, this is payable in person or by transfer. Please be aware I have a 24 hour cancellation policy and the full cost will be charged.
