Counselling for 9 years upwards
Whats on offer?
I offer a confidential space for individuals talk about what has brought them to therapy. Sometimes as we navigate through life we arrive at a point where our inside world and outside world are not helping us at all and we need some help from another person who is focused on us to get to where we want to be. My approach is informed by my training Transactional Analysis and Systemic Psychotherapy. There is more about my training and experience in my About Me page.
How do I work?
Using therapists language it is described as being 'client led', what this means is I will establish with you what you would like from coming and keep checking in with you that is what we are doing. Initially you may not be sure what you want, lots of people feel this way, we can discuss together, gaining clarity about what you would like from coming might be the first bit of work we will do. There is no right or wrong way for us to work together, what I bring to the relationship is my professional knowledge, training etc., what you bring is you and you are the only expert on you, between us we can hopefully find a way of working together that suits you.
I will ask lots of questions and I do this to try and understand as fully as possible what is going on for you. This may include questions about your past, what goes on in your life day to day, things that are going well, things that are really difficult. Asking questions as well as increasing my understanding helps you understand your self. There different ways of wording it, I like the description of being psychologically flexible, increasing your understanding of your self increases your psychological flexibility. Why is that important? Our brains are very clever and can do all sorts of things some of which is out of our awareness and then we end up being overwhelmed by emotions, doing something we wish we hadn't or getting stuck with negative self saboutaging thoughts going round and round our heads. Whatever situation we are facing increasing our psychological flexibility helps us to manage it, manage ourselves within it.
During the first meeting I will explain further about how I work, or send me an email and ask if you would like to know more.
What can I help with?
